It’s Hard to Swallow Now!

Bad bad news for Kuchingnites who loves to eat noodles!!! Kolo Mee is one of the most popular food in Kuching…I love it, do you? BUT!!!

Omfg!! Not again?! Read this!

Pricier noodles from Nov 1

Kolo mee, yellow mee, kueh tiaw and wanton skin will be harder to swallow as prices likely to shoot up at hawker stalls, says spokesman

KUCHING: A gathering of manufacturers of yellow noodle, kueh tiaw and kolo mee in Kuching and Samarahan divisions have agreed to new standardised prices of between 20 and 60 sen more per kilogramme.

The new prices will come into effect on Nov 1.

Kolo mee will increase to RM4.20 per kg (from RM3.60); yellow mee, RM2.40/kg (from RM1.80); kueh tiaw, RM2.40/kg (from RM2); and wanton skin, RM1.90/kg (from RM1.70).

The new prices exclude vermicelli (bee hoon) that is normally used for Laksa. However, the category of kueh tiaw includes ‘kueh chap’ and ‘kueh tikus’.

The price hike will very likely translate to higher prices of these local delicacies at the hawkers’ stalls. A bowl of kolo mee, for instance, would be about 10 sen more expensive, said a spokesperson.

The manufacturers told a press conference on Monday night that the increases were due to soaring cost of raw materials, especially the more expensive medium to high-grade flour and cooking oil.

The main ingredient of yellow noodles and kolo mee is medium-high grade flour,” said the spokesperson known as Kueh, who is also the proprietor of BB Trading Company here.

“The price of medium-high grade flour increased in September, so we really have no choice but to increase our prices too,” she said, adding that low-grade flour was the only government controlled item.

As for kueh tiaw, about 80 per cent of it consisted of rice, but cooking oil is needed in larger quantities compared to yellow noodles and kolo mee, Kueh pointed out.

The price of cooking oil has hit the RM62 mark for a 17kg tin lately, from around RM30 two years ago.

“The government also prohibits (mee and noodle) manufacturers from purchasing subsidised cooking oil that are sold in supermarkets. Those are meant for the public, which we understand.

“Therefore, it means that the cost of cooking oil that we use to make noodles and kueh tiaw has increased by more than 100 per cent,” she said.

She also said manufacturers had not increased the price of kueh tiaw since 1998, unlike the prices of yellow noodles and kolo mee, which were increased in April and October respectively.

Among those present at the meeting on Monday who agreed to the new standard prices were eight kueh tiaw manufacturers, five yellow noodle manufacturers and 25 kolo mee manufacturers.

The spokesperson also said that they would advertise the new prices in all four local Chinese dailies today.

===================

Orange and I just had Laksa for dinner yesterday. I ate normal Laksa with bee hoon, and he asked for yellow mee. Maybe it’s time to keep eating bee hoon. Because “The new prices exclude vermicelli (bee hoon) that is normally used for Laksa.”

Everything increases price…only SALARY DOESN’T!!

yah , very ‘pekchek’. low salary, high expenses. and now , i kena ‘chao you yu’ so dxxm…
    so i composs a song(while i jobless):
    老板我要钱
    词 / lyric : rambochai
    曲 / music : rambochai
    有人出身就很有钱 游手好闲在外头特别贱
    有人出身就很没钱 右手做工左手必要节俭
    有钱害怕没人知道 洋房盖得特别要强调
    有权有势没人能屌 贫穷的人就受尽屈辱

    又是一个月的到来 丢掉工作没有关系
    休息一段时间在来 有利条件才去开工
    难道社会没有标本 开创行业需要一点资本
    摊位也要一点小本 看我也是没钱出本

    副歌:
    老板 我要钱 虽然你给的钱也许对我不算少
    老板 我要钱 我的未来都逃不过你的手掌里
    老板 我要钱 现在的生活费也许对我不算少
    老板 我要钱 我实在不够钱
    很缺钱 我要钱我要钱我要钱我要钱我要钱

    与你共鸣.

I also got think if can be own boss that will be nice. But if business not good then will start to complaint again. Therefore, I have a dream - to become a problogger. But dunno if this can become true or not, as being a full time blogger is also very challenging.
