Setup Your Custom Domain

Category: Blogging

Recently, more and more bloggers are purchasing their own domain names. It looks super cool to have your own domain comparing to subdomain. That was why I started to buy my own domain name back in May 2007. I had my blog still hosting under Blogspot’s server (a Blogspot.com blog of course) while using my custom domain for readers to access my blog that time.

If you already got your own domain name, and want to do the same thing, this is a short tutorial for you. Or, if you already got your own domain (domain name + web hosting plan) and would like your readers to be directed from your blogspot url to your domain, this is also a short tutorial for you.

Adding a custom domain for your Blogspot.com blog

1) Find out Google DNS. In this case it’s ghs.google.com
2) Login to your domain name control panel.
3) Create a CNAME record and point it to ghs.google.com
4) Save your settings and you’re done.

Click to view my setting when I was using my custom domain with blogspot.com

To find out how to create a CNAME record, you can refer this.

Now, whenever your readers type in your domain name, it will automatically point to your blogspot.com blog.

Directing your Blogspot.com URL to your custom domain

1) Login to your Blogspot account. Go to Settings > Publishing. Click on “Custom Domain“.

2) Click “Switch to advanced settings
blogspot-custom2

3) Enter the domain name that you have bought and click “Save Settings“.

Now, whenever your readers access your blogspot URL, they will be directed to your domain automatically.

Have fun and happy blogging. =)

Yup. I show 2 types of redirecting. One is just like yours, when I type rambochai.com, it will point to your blogspot blog. [Mentioned in first part]

The other one means, when you buy a hosting plan with your dot com, and you want people to be directed to your domain when typing your blogspot url. Try this out, type xiaoyenzi.blogspot.com . It’s a blogspot blog right? But you will be directed to my blog @ http://www.xiaoyenzi.com. I want to do this because, in case people access my blog using my old blogspot.com url, they still can be directed to this new wordpress blog. [Mentioned in 2nd part]
