This evening when I checked my blog, I was shocked!
My blog was auto directed to some sort of phising-looking site. I tried again and notice that the status bar of the browser showed the changes of URL loaded. Once it was loading the Advertlets URL, my blog was then directed to other site automatically. At first thought, I think that Advertlets is hacked. Or can it be my browser problem? I tried to visit some of my blogger friends’ blogs that serve Advertlets ads. The same thing happened.
Advertlets.com - “domain name expired on Jan 03, 2008” as shown in the screenshot above. What the heck?! Isn’t this very dangerous? I mean the admin should be aware of the domain expiry date. What if someone else buy their domain and resell at a higher price?
The worse thing is, this cause some auto redirect of websites from the publishers’ blogs! We don’t know when will Advertlets solve the problem. So for the mean time, I suggest that those who serve Advertlets ads, remove the codes temporarily else your readers might not be able to read your blogs!!!
Is the domain name really expired or it has been hacked?
Updates:
Just checked out the WHOIS for Advertlets.com. From the report, the expiration date is 04 Jan 2010. Does that include the domain name itself?

Yes, I noticed that too. Some of the blogs I visited just redirect to it. At first, I thought my browser has been hacked. Now I feel better after reading this post.

If a site owner can’t even afford to pay for auto renewal for his domain, I don’t think any reason to be in business with him.
kinda crappy, isn’t it.

another silly mistake, can’t they remember the expiry dateline?
January 6th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Lol. Yea.. I thought something wasn’t right when I was redirected from blogs. That’s a bit amatuerish if they aren’t renewing their domain.
Should hear about it officially in a day or two.

I really can’t believe this. An online ad company can even forget to renew their domain? It’s so funny to know about this. After this, I don’t think I will trust Advertlets 100%…

Well, I really don’t know what comment to give to Advertlets now. This morning I went to check their domain, same thing happen again. Not yet solve the problem? Yea, Johnny, the domain expire date is now “2010″ but why is it directing people to other sites?
Recently, lots of bloggers have been complaining bout the late payment or suspension because of “click fraud detection”. What’s going on Advertlets? Now your domain is down as well… =/

Well, guess what… It’s 9:25am now and the page is still not working. Follow the flushdns command and still get the same thing. Hmmm, I wonder if they understand the meaning of smooth transition? You can find more of their “stories” at http://advertlets.blogspot.com
Even if the site is returning. I will not trust this fella and his crew again! Bye bye Advertlets…

@ColourfulWorld,
Okay thanks for sharing. I just checkout their blog and follow the suggested instruction of flushing the DNS, unfortunately, it did no help at all.

Well, finally everything is back to normal now but I seriously doubt Advertlets will be the same again. Look at Nuffnang’s ultimate weapon - Glitterati… =p
January 9th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Nuffnang’s Glitterati seems to a great offer, but I won’t go for it, at least for this blog, because I want to give Nufflets a try. Furthermore, everyone makes mistake, why not give Advertlets yet another chance. That’s just my opinion.

Glitterati seems like a very good timing considering advertlets screw up. Way to go nuffnang

Glitterati really seems to be a good deal, but I would love to try other ads network too. So maybe I will put up nuffnang in other blogs.
