Simple Yet Blissful

Category: Life Log

Sometime ago, I mentioned that Cherry and I wanted to give Dad a surprise. On 25th January evening, after work, I drove all the way to the bakery shop to collect the cake the we ordered before hand. We didn’t inform Dad that we were going to buy him a birthday cake.

This is the first time we bought a cake for Dad. During previous years, we also didn’t quite gave him any presents. This year, I don’t know why, I felt that it’s better to give him something on this special day of his, to show our appreciation towards the afford he spent on us all these years. Maybe it’s because I’ve been working in the society, seeing all kind of people from different background and secretly deep inside my heart, I make a comparison among Dad and other daddies.

Although some times I might get scold for little things or have to obey the curfew Dad has given to me, he is still a loving and caring Dad. He might not know how to express it directly to us, daughters of his. But deep inside my heart, I know he still care about us. (Although “The Mistress” might not be happy with this)

We bought the cake from Mita cake house for RM26. It’s not an expensive cake like those you find in Starbucks or Coffee Bean. I think that doesn’t really matter. What matter the most is our sincerity of giving Dad a surprise “present”.

I believe that night, he was happy as well. Lit the candles. The reflection of the candle light had brighten the atmosphere as well as Dad’s expression. A somewhat complicated emotion was mixing and scrambling inside my mind. Yea, that’s 5 candles. If it isn’t because of the “stinky” hair control that Dad has been using all these while, part of his hair must have turned gray. Dad has reached his fifties…

Dad loves to eat chocolate cake, especially chocolate ice-cream cake. But we ordered a vanilla cake with blueberry topping. I wanted to let Dad know that, vanilla in fact taste good too. If he could ever give himself a chance to accept other flavors rather than those he always stick too, he would definitely change his point of view, as long as the flavor is a great one. Orange might be sour, but sweet is part of its attribute too.

Although it was just a simple cake, it drew our relationship a little closer. He said the cake taste good.

We were happy.

Simple yet blissful.
