Scottish Bizarreness
Posted on Mar 09 in Cute/Interesting, Discoveryby ApplePrint

How much do you know about Scotland? I didn’t know any of these (which I’m going to share later in this post) until I received a sort-of-funny email in my inbox. To know more about the details, I did some search in Google and found some bizarre things which are actually practiced by the Scottish.
Fried food is actually tasty and favored by lots of people, especially kids. Don’t we love to order French fries when we visit fast food restaurants such as KFC or McD? But do you know…Scottish eat lots of fried food which is claimed to be unhealthy. Ever heard of fried Mars candy bar? Yea, you can easily eat this in Scotland!
First Minister Jack McConnell, the leader of Scotland’s executive cabinet, described the country as “one of the unhealthiest nations in Europe.”
The researchers found that Mars bars aren’t Scotland’s only deep-fried specialties, with chip shops also frying up ice-cream, pizza, pineapple rings, pickled eggs, Snicker bars, and bananas.
The deep-fried Mars bar is believed to have originated in the northeast Scottish village of Stonehaven, following a bet struck between a chip shop owner and a customer. – National Geographic
I suppose you know about the Scottish Kilt, which is a Scottish icon for centuries. There’s something bizarre with it too. Not the costume but the wearer! Men in Scotland wear the skirt-like kilt. The kilt look great and it is a very usual thing to see men in kilt in Scotland.
The following is rated as mature content, please see at your own risk. kekeke..
Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
What’s behind these kilt??? Uncover the truth with your own eyes now~

Hmm..how about the view from behind?

Have you spot something in this pic?

Oh my~
大风吹。吹什么?吹没穿内裤的人。

And I found a very funny commercial.

Humm..
Well, speaking from the highlands of Scotland let me say, I have never met anyone who has had a deep fried mars bar, and apart from special occasions it is not very common to see a man in a kilt – and why would you wear anything under it?
The inner city areas of Glasgow are pretty unhealthy, but out of the cities most people spend time outside walking the hills, climbing, playing sports. Oh, and just to finish off, here a list of the inventions and discoveries that Scots have given the world:
The telephone: Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922)
The television: John Logie Baird (1888-1946)
Fax Machine – Alexander Bain
Radio (underlying principles) – James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879)
Radar: Robert Watson-Watt (1892-1973)
The first edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica (1768-81)
The first English textbook on surgery (1597)
Criminal fingerprinting: Henry Faulds (1843-1930)
The MRI body scanner: John Mallard in 1980
The first cloned mammal (Dolly the Sheep): The Roslin Institute research centre in 1996
Discovering insulin: John J R Macleod (1876-1935)
Penicillin: Sir Alexander Fleming (1881-1955)
The fountain pen: Robert Thomson (1822-1873)
The pedal bicycle: Kirkpatrick Macmillan (1813-1878)
The pneumatic tyre: Robert William Thomson and John Boyd Dunlop (1822-1873)
Wave-powered electricity generator: Stephen Salter in 1977
The steam boat: William Symington (1763-1831)
And a few dozen others..
Not bad for a country with a population smaller than the metropolitan area of Miami!
Ok, thats the Scottish perspective finished
I have traveled to Scotland and I didn’t see fried candy bars. I did notice that they fry a lot of different foods. America is not much better. Go to a fair or amusement park and you can get fried candy bars, Twinkies (cream filled sponge cakes), and Oreo cookies.
I personally never travel to any western countries. So, fried candy bars and the ‘truth’ behind the kilt is more like a culture shock for me. As I believe most people in my country don’t practice this.
@Orange,
no, you don’t have to wear that, or else I will go ‘crazy’. *evil grin*
@alvin,
Lol, different places practice different culture. The first time I saw those pix, I was like WTF?! and this expression –> =.=
@Timus,
Thanks for the information, Timus.
@beeker,
According to what I read from the net, such fried candy bars is sold in chip shops in Scotland, but don’t know how true is this though.
haha!! Scotland + your little disclaimer…I should have expected up-kilt pics
I didn’t lol hilirious. I wanna try a fried candy bar, tho it’s not a very good idea
I cannot believe my eyes. Really…I always said WOW!
