A Place to Get Mum’s Cooking

Who is the best cook in the world? No doubt, it has to be our own mums. What makes mum’s cooking the best is a very special ingredient that you can’t find any where – LOVE. After mum left this world, I have to take care of myself. It’s been 8 years and 8 months, I never taste her cooking and will never have the chance to do so. I envy my colleagues so much, as they have their lunch box prepared by their mothers every early morning. Whereas, I have to wake up early to prepare my own lunch box. I’m missing my mum’s cooking badly.

One day, Orange and I decided to go to a place that can get mum’s cooking….

Hmm…let’s see what can we have today? Any mum’s specialties?

First of all, let’s have some drinks. Mum always advises us not to take too much soft drinks, so a glass of fresh soya bean and teh c peng (ice milk tea) will be great.

Oh! Cincaluk dip (baby shrimp paste – a traditional Malacca local dish)!!! It’s been a very long time I haven’t taste such a dish.

Pak loh pork with egg. It’s pork in black sauce and spice. The pork is really soft and really enjoyable. I’m not a pork fan, but I have to say this dish taste really great!

Midin (a wild plant that can be found in Sarawak) with ‘Ulam’ dip. This is widely liked by a lot of people living in Kuching or any places in Sarawak. Now, I believe more and more West Malaysians start to love this dish as well.

I always like to have soup when eating. Sweet corn is my favorite! It’s sweet and tasty. Here is a bowl of chicken sweet corn soup.

Okay…all these can be found in Mother’s Recipe, a restaurant located at No.7 Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre, Jalan Setia Raja, 93350 Kuching.

Let’s take a look at the surroundings… It feels like home. Here is a corner with some very antique looking shelf to put the utensils.

The interior is very simple but comfortable.

Some very old photos are hung on the wall as decorations.

It’s recognized as a place to get home cook dishes. I would like to add on as this place is also an ideal location to taste some nyonya dishes.

Where can you find this place? At Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre area.

How about the price? Hmm.. still affordable but worth it as you are going to taste mum’s cooking.

Did I make you hungry?
