I’ve Been Cloned

I remember reading a blog post from HongKiat.com about his whole blog being cloned! (Joshua ever mentioned about this issue too, currently his site is down so am unable to look for the exact link.) As the genuine owner, HongKiat was really pissed off. I thought such things only happens to famous blogs, or at least blogs with high traffic.

Clones?

This morning after turning on my computer, I decided to check all my blogs and planned to update most of them. Then I notice a new incoming link. I clicked on it and was totally stunned to see one of my blog posts from Blogging For Novice has been cloned. The content is exactly the SAME, including the images and download links are directly linked to my server.

The only difference is the post title and some sentences that mentioned about WordPress.

Original:

Cloned: (No, I’m not going to give any link love)

Make a comparison and can you spot the difference?

Notice that:

  1. 22 Beautiful New Bloggers Templates becomes 22 Good Looking Blogger Template.
  2.

  3. “Previously, I have listed some very nice WordPress themes for download. Still, we cannot ignore bloggers who still have their blogs hosted in Blogger (blogspot.com).” has been removed from the beginning of the original post in the cloned post.
  4.

  5. “p/s: This is my first port after upgrading to WordPress 2.5. I still need some time to get use to it. The multi upload function seems a bit laggy. (maybe due to connection problem?)” has also been removed at the end of the post (not shown in the screen captures above)

The “imposter” is using blogspot, so he removed all my statement that mentioned about WordPress. I wrote that post on 31st March 2008 and he copied it on 21st May 2008. So, tell me who copy who?

This is really a bad practise. And it can be considered as plagiarism. Google dislike plagiarism and duplicate contents. If you like an article, quote and give a link back to the original post. It’s even better if you can use your own words to talk about that topic in your own blog.
