Category: Tech Stuff

Some of you out there are confused on how to use custom emoticons in your MSN Messenger, or currently known as Windows Live Messenger. As requested, I’m going to show you how to use custom emoticons. It can be any custom emoticons, best with .gif format.

Onionhead Emoticons

Nothing fancy, just get ready your emoticons. Search and download the emoticons you want. And get ready for the next step.

There are only 6 simple steps to set custom emoticons in Windows Live Messenger.

Step 1: Click on the yellow smiley on top of the typing area.

Step 2: Click on “Show all…

Step 3: Click on “Create…

Step 4: Click on “Find Image…” and locate to the directory/place where the custom emoticons are saved earlier.

Step 5: Give your emoticon a name. This name will be the shortcut to display the emoticon. In this example, I use /hi as the shortcut key.

Step 6: Click OK.

Now you can see your new custom emoticon.

To use the emoticon, you can either select from the list of Custom emoticons, or just type the shortcut key. When I type /hi in the typing area, I will get something like this:

Note: You can add one custom emoticon at a time. So if you want to add more, you will have to repeat the above steps.

You can get Onionhead emoticons here. Not only you can use Onionhead, you can also use Tuzki, like this one with candles, good for birthday greetings.

Not enough? You can always check the Downloads section for updates.
