How does your dream house look like? A small house with comfortable home furniture can be a very cozy one. Elegant home furniture is one of the factors to make your house look good and comfortable, however it cost lots of bucks as well! But, wait! There’s still another way to “enjoy” yourself in your own design house. Yes, that’s by playing The Sims video game.

The Sims is one of my favorite PC games. I’ve always wanted to have fun with The Sims 2, but due to my computer’s specification, the game takes up too much resources till my computer can hardly support it. Not to mention the next generation The Sims 3.

I always refer my desktop’s graphic card as Grandfather Geforce. It has a Nvidia Geforce 2 MX400 64-bit DDR graphic card. Back in year 2003, it was something new and cool. Now, Geforce has already reach its 9000 series. Just imagine that, how can I play a game smoothly with my old “grandfather graphic card”? Of course, not only the graphic cards matter. The motherboard and processor is also an issue. Means, it’s time for me to save some bucks to start building a new PC.

I’ve been aiming to get this Gigabyte GeForce 9600GT 1GB GDDR3, also known as GV-NX96TIGHP.

These are the summaries of this graphic card:

  1. Powered by GeForce 9600GT GPU
  2. Supports PCI Express
  3. Microsoft DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1 Support
  4. Integrated with the industry’s best 1GB GDDR3 memory and 256-bit memory interface
  5. Supports SLI and PureVideo HD technology
  6. Feature dual DVI-I/D-sub

But after reading some reviews on this 9600GT 1GB version, I think it’s better to get a 9600GT 512MB version. I like the heat pipe model, however my company has no stock for the 512MB heat pipe version (GV-NX96T512HP). So, if I were to really get a 9600GT, I will get 512MB fan version (GV-NX96T512H) instead.

Here is a summary on my findings on why you should go for 9600GT 512MB version:

The gains between the 1GB version and the 512MB version are just so minimal that ultimately in-game you wouldn’t notice the difference between the two.  There’s no real performance increase. In other words, the 512MB version offers the same performance as the 1GB version.

If you are looking for silent over-clocking, then the 1GB version is what you need. If you are still running Windows XP, you are advised to stick with the 512MB version, as the 1GB version is not performing well in Windows XP, compare to its performance in Windows Vista.

Hope this little information helps those who are still wondering which 9600GT version to get. It all depends on your needs. I’m with Windows XP, so 512MB is a better choice.

Ah…I really need to upgrade my video card for my desktop. I still have a GEForce 5200 series, LOL! It will never run The Sims 2, if I had it (waiting for the complete collection to come out). It runs WoW though with low settings, but with a lot of lag.. My laptop (Celeron M processor; Radeon Xpress 200M series) on the other hand could run WoW with medium settings, as well as Sims 2 on low settings, but it may not run Sims 3. :/

I have been waiting for this! Important development for appreciation of OpenCL system/application acceleration for another class of Mac Users. Opens up both OpenCL and CUDA to scientific programming under OS X without high entry cost of the Quadro products. The only reason I run Bootcamp/Windows is to access GTX card, so if this pans out I can stop wasting my time with it. Might even get some good game ports to the Mac now.
