This is What the So-Called "IT Support Staff"

Category: Life Log

Now what? This is when I start grumbling about my task when my ’superiors’ give me some non-IT related job for me to do!! You see the picture above there? Yea, that’s me! I’m checking the printed invoices, making sure the figures printed is tally with the report. HELLO?!! I THOUGHT I’M HERE TO MAKE SURE ALL YOUR COMPUTER EQUIPMENT (hardware & software) IS IN GOOD CONDITION? Yea, that time when I went to the first interview, I was told that I might be given some administrator job. So this is it?! *faints* I feel more like a super ‘general worker’ that need to handle all IT related stuff and some ’seem-not-so-important-yet-need-to-be-completed’ job.

It sounds cool to have your own room in the office. When I am asked about my working environment, I will reply that I have my own room..and all go “wah~”. But do you know? This room’s door is never close and everyone can simply come in and go out. Because this room is more like a store room with simple server and routers, with a photostat machine that everyone will use it daily and lots of other documents here.

Colleague K went for a vacation as long as 1 week. During this time, I was the one who did her partial job. But of course before that, she has been ‘training’ me to do this job, because (oh well, so you have been planning since then?) she knows she will be away for some time. And of course, this is an order from our top most ’superior’ that we call Madam. Now, K is back and distributing some gifts. Everyone got so exicited, that’s what I heard from my ‘room’. I thought she gonna left me out. If this is true, I’m gonna be very pissed off. (Hey man, I’ve been helping you to do your job and you forget my present?! No kidding..since everyone has it, why not me?) But of course, there’s still ‘human’ within her. This is the lovely gift she gave me this morning.

Guess what?

Madam: if I ask K pass the invoice and receipt file copies checking for you to handle any problem or not? cos I wan to arrange her to help me check and followup with branches problem.Me: Ok

Tell me please, in this situation can I say “no”? That’s insane if I said “no”.

Everyone will seem to forget my existence if there’s good things to share. They only remember me when: computer got problems, other peripherals got problems, want my assistance for either official or private stuff.. *sobs* (That’s the real ugly society and office politics)

And one more thing that I would love to mention. This is what I heard this morning from Madam.

Madam: Those with the ‘paper’ one also won’t come *censor company name* work one la..If got the ‘paper’ also won’t work long….

This reminds me of my ex-colleague when I was working in the Press. She ever said something similar which goes:

People like us without any certificates one sure stay here and work la…if I got the certificate I also won’t be here.

The ‘paper’ refers to certificates. Hello?! It’s not like I am boosting or what. I’ve both Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree. So?! When I left the Press, I thought I’ve found a better job. And Madam said those with certificates won’t stay in the company for long..once again. HELLO?! I’m the one with the ‘paper’, I thought I might stay here for like 2 to 4 years? But hey..this is sick..salary sucks can exceed all the good things here.

So tell me. How ‘better’ is a better job? I guess a job with higher salary that can cover up your expenses and ego needs, is a ‘better’ one. What do you think?

Registration for Graduation 2007

Category: Life Log

Started my online degree in October 2005 and completed my course in February 2007, that’s a 1-year-4-months-program. Now, the graduation ceremony is going to be held in Singapore on the 10th of November 2007. Just received an email about this information yesterday and just now, I’ve just completed the registration form.

Haha, I’m going to Singapore for my graduation ceremony. Oh dear, I can hardly remember my last visit to Singapore. I think that time I was 6, what a long time ago. Any friends in Singapore wanna meet me? LOL

Finally graduated. Any increase in my salary, boss?

Camera and I

This self-portrait was taken this morning before I left home for work. Most of the original photos posted in this blog were taken by this digital camera. Very bulky indeed - Canon IXUS 300. It was Dad’s but he bought a new SONY cybershot and gave this to me. The battery easily worn out, and I need to charge it almost everyday (if I keep using it)I don’t really how to use camera..the macro effect, I still don’t know how to handle well…

Reinstallation

Category: Life Log

Did you notice that these 2 days I update my blog kinda late? But I’m still trying to update it everyday, as I don’t want my blog visitors to get bored with the same contents. I was busy and still busy of reinstalling Windows and other softwares which are essential to me. I was thinking of making a Dual OS in my laptop, the original Windows XP Professional and the Ubuntu 7.04 which I received some time ago. I’ve tried installing Ubuntu 6.06 to my desktop computer and it was nicely setup with two OS available for booting. (But deal to some Windows problem some time later, I reformat my desktop computer and install Windows XP only)

I was thinking what’s the difference between Ubuntu 6.06 and Ubuntu 7.04? So, I decided to install Ubuntu 7.04 to my laptop (currently using it to blog). When I start doing the installation, wow..the interface looks even better than the previous version, I mean look at the logo, it’s more round and solid. However the photo you see below, it’s a bit stretch. Well, that’s what it looks like when you have it freshly installed in a widescreen display laptop.

Ubuntu 7.04
And because of some misunderstanding on the partition part, all, ALL my data in the harddisk all reformatted and gone~~~ Well, that’s why I’m busy these 2 days. You gonna say, installing Windows doesn’t take you 2 days, huh? Well, this include finding software which I always wanted to install and also, spending a lot of time searching for customized font…and a lot more, such as Photoshop brushes…I haven’t search for old and new one. That’s eating up my time.I’m sad that some critical data is gone, but hey, it’s a new start…my laptop is now more nicely organized and I’ve decided to change the font that I always use for the watermark to the one you see in the above picture. Now my laptop is ready to use and most software that I need is already installed.

P/S: Just in case you haven’t know yet, Ubuntu is one of Linux distros.
