Time flashes without our notice
It’s been 1 year and 10 months
I love you, Orange.

I haven’t update much about my career review since I work with this new company. I’m working in a forwarding company as an IT support. Sounds more like an in-house computer technician though. However, my job coverage is actually more than fixing computers - hardware and software, everything that related to IT is my responsibility. Sounds like a superwoman? nah~ I’m a fresh graduate, what more can I do? I was graduated with Diploma in Computer Studies major in Multimedia and just get my title for Bachelor of Science (2nd Lower Hons) in Computing. Those of you in the IT field should know how to differentiate between “Computer Studies” and “Computer Engineering”.
Sad to say that, people in general don’t know that this field actually has a large coverage and different district. Computer Studies is a general study of computing, basically covers a general review of each computing district (say, a bit of website developing, a bit of C programming, a bit of database handling, a lot of “useless” system analysis…) I’m sad to say that my college didn’t teach me how to assemble hardware into a chassis, didn’t teach me how to reformat a computer, didn’t teach me how to configure some simple file sharing, didn’t teach me how to troubleshoot hardware/software fraud. You gonna say that all these things can be learned from the Internet, right? Yea, THAT’S TRUE! I learned all the skills that have not been taught back in college by surfing the web, and once took a short course on hardware troubleshooting.
Then I signed up for a Bachelor’s degree online course. Why a Bachelor’s degree? Thinking back, I don’t know why must I have this degree. To get higher paid salary? To show off to the relatives that I’m a Bachelor’s degree holder? To secure a better job? BSc (Hons) in Computing, sounds so professional, with Honours some more. So sarcastic to tell you that, non of the things I learned in my degree course be applied in my job. It’s so hard, the society is very cruel. If you have skills & experiences but without a certificate to prove, you get lower pay. If you have fancy certificate titles, but you don’t really have the required skill, people will give you higher pay straight away. (then later, you can fast fast go learn the skills)
Hey but before I applied for this position, I’ve learned some skills by my own. I once tell Orange that, whenever I have a question, I sure ask my friend - Google. When I applied for this position, I was using my Diploma qualification, because at that moment I hadn’t completed my Bachelor’s degree. Sometimes, I’m worried that my supervisor will think that I’m not so qualified for this job, or simply doubt my knowledge. Maybe because I have too much free time here sitting at my working desk…that’s why.
Few days ago, Orange gave me a link to a guy’s blog. While reading it, I keep on nodding my head.
The 10 reasons the author mentioned is so true, very true. Among all those reasons, I would like to quote this one out:
Reason #3 - You Possess Unlimited ResponsibilityThe computer guy is expected to solve problems. It is difficult to determine the boundaries of that expectation.
I’m not complaining my job or what. I believe for now I can’t find any better job other than this. Most of the time I’m free and am in stand-by mode. Anyone calls, I will have to entertain and make sure to provide a perfect solution. Any way, it’s challenging too! I get to put my practical skill in live action. Oh, forget to mention, sometimes I’m treated like a multi-purposes tool: a live English talking dictionary, a formal letter generator, a free IT consultant…be it official or unofficial.
No matter how hard you explain, people will just sum up that you “the computer guy” suppose to know everything about computer.
A system analyst not necessary know how to perform a network administrator’s job - remember that!

An aura suddenly appeared around me, oh yes!!!! I finally up 1 level!! That makes me level 23. Wow, what a hard-to-gain experience. It takes 365 days to up 1 level - approximately 3~4 days to up 1% out of 100% experiences. So, a celebration for this special day is better than anything. It will be just an ordinary day like any other days if my Orange never walked into my life. He made my life fill with different colors, and still filling with lots of love. Life is something different since then. And for the celebration of my level up, he bought me some goodies. I said I hadn’t eaten cake for a long time, he bought me a cake. He knows I love Kuma-Kuma (the cute green turtle), he bought another 2 more baby Kumas for me. He has become my everything. ^^ I’m so addicted to him.
As for others, they sent their regards via different media - MSN messenger, forum, blog, Friendster, SMS, presents, cards… Flattered… Read more…
