Pirates of the Caribbean Music

Category: Music

Pirates of the CaribbeanPirates of the Caribbean series movie is one of the top box office movies. Nonetheless, a good movie can only be perfect with nice composition of the background music or known as soundtracks. Normally when watching a movie, I kind of listen carefully to the soundtracks, the musical instruments used. POTC original soundtracks are composed by Hans Zimmer. Really amazed by how Zimmer composed the music to make it just sound so right. These few days, I’ve been listening to 2 original soundtracks from POTC 3: At World’s End. I like the “Singapore” theme the most! I suddenly thought that it would be nice if to watch an orchestra performing POTC theme. So here you go, found some wonderful vids from YouTube that I’d like to share.

An interview sort-of type about the making of POTC OST with Hans Zimmer:

An orchestra live performance.
Simply sounds so nice, make me remember my days back in high school’s orchestra. If you were the performers, you would feel like you’re inside the movie yourself! Wow, great violins, cellos, double basses, trumpets, drums.

A piano version (”The Medallion Calls”) by shihjayang. Kinda envy him, what a splendid performance!

Lastly, I’m a pirate fan.

Sape - Sound of Borneo

Save Our Rainforest - Sape performance by Jerry Kamit

Sape, with alias names of Sampet, Sampeh and Sapeh, is a traditional musical instrument of the Borneo tribes. Sape is more popular among the Orang Ulu.

Initially, sape was a 2-strings with 3 frets plucking instrument, and it has evolved up to 5-strings or 6-strings with a range of more than three octaves today. Modern sapes nowadays also exist in the form of electronic one.

Personally, I love the sound of sape, very Asian and ethnic. You can actually watch live sape performance here in the Sarawak Cultural village.

To read more about Sape, find out here.
By the way, there’s an international sape player which I’d love to mention here. He is Jerry Kamit. You can catch him this coming Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF 2007) as he will be performing on stage too!

This is a not-to-be-missed occasion. I’ve been to this event twice. Once, I was also one of the stage performers back several years ago when I was still in my high school orchestra. The second time, I went there from noon till night with my family and quite fun also. I plan to attend this coming event with my boyfriend, but don’t know if every is fine or not.Tickets are available now and for more information about this event, please visit the RWMF official website.
